Check your toilet for leaks and cracks by adding several drops of food coloring to the tank. Wait 30 minutes (don't use the toilet!). If you see color in the bowl, it has a leak that should be repaired. If the toilet handle has to be held down in order to flush properly, or jiggled to stop from running, you may need to replace parts inside the tank.
