Hot Water Heater FAQ
How do I know if I need a new water heater?
There are several signs that may indicate your water heater might be failing: water buildup in or around your water heater, water-quality issues, or the unit no longer provides the same temperature or duration of hot water as it did in the past. An in-home inspection can determine whether or not you need to install a new water heater.
How do I know if I need to repair my water heater rather than replace it?
It often comes down to the age and overall condition of the existing water heater. Do you have a lot of the failing symptoms we listed above? If the water heater is outside the warranty period or the repairs are extensive, we recommend that it be replaced rather than repaired.
What factors should I consider when replacing a water heater?
What fuel source (gas or electric), storage capacity, tank type (tank or tankless), and warranty are all factors to consider. Your decision on storage capacity should be based on home and family size – essentially, need and demand.
What's the difference between gas water heaters and electric water heaters?
Gas water heaters usually cost less to operate, but are slightly more expensive upfront and less efficient overall. On the other hand, electric water heaters cost more to operate, but are more efficient and offer higher energy-factor ratings.
How long can I expect my water heater to last?
Depending on what model you purchase, some come with a manufacturer's warranty. Please reference the product materials that came with your unit for estimated time frames and coverage.
Can I install a water heater myself?
It is recommended that you hire a licensed, professional to install your water heater. Improper installation of a water heater could cause catastrophic damage or injury if the unit is not installed properly.
